How the estimate is calculated
For each runner type, billable minutes are jobs per month × average job duration rounded up to a whole minute, multiplied by that runner's per-minute rate. Your plan's included minutes are then subtracted from standard runners, cheapest first. Larger runners are always billed, and self-hosted runners have no per-minute charge from GitHub (you still pay for the infrastructure).
An estimate is only as good as its inputs. To see real billable minutes and spend by repository, workflow, and runner type from your own run history, use Gitera's GitHub Actions cost analysis, and compare hosted spend with your self-hosted runner fleet. Frequently asked questions
How much does GitHub Actions cost per minute?
As of September 2026, GitHub lists standard 2-core Linux runners at $0.006 per minute, Windows 2-core at $0.010, and macOS at $0.062. Larger runners cost more, for example $0.022 per minute for 8-core Linux. Self-hosted runners and standard runners in public repositories are not billed per minute.
How are GitHub Actions minutes rounded?
GitHub rounds each job up to the nearest whole minute, so a job that runs for 4 minutes and 10 seconds is billed as 5 minutes. Workflows with many short jobs, such as large matrices, can therefore cost noticeably more than their total runtime suggests.
Do included minutes apply to larger runners?
No. Plan-included minutes (2,000 on Free, 3,000 on Pro, 3,000 on Team, 50,000 on Enterprise Cloud) only cover standard GitHub-hosted runners, and Windows minutes count 2× and macOS minutes 10× against the allowance. Larger runners are always billed, even in public repositories, so this calculator applies included minutes to standard runners only.
How can I see my actual GitHub Actions cost per workflow?
GitHub's billing page reports spend by account and SKU, not by workflow. Gitera's cost analysis breaks billable minutes and estimated spend down by repository, workflow, and runner type from your real run history, so you can find the specific jobs driving the bill.
